SKIP follows a learning through play philosophy.SKIP was established in 1988 by a group of parents as a branch of the Hong Kong Preschool Playgroups Association (HKPPA), an organisation that promotes learning through play and encourages parent participation. Twenty-two years on, we still follow these philosophies. From playgroup right through to kindergarten, our children are encouraged to explore at their own pace, to make their own choices and discoveries and to develop a lifelong love for learning. Through play children feel confident to behave in many different ways and to experiment with their physical, emotional and cognitive selves. It is also through play that children develop their imagination and creativity.

With progression to the older kindergarten class the curriculum becomes more structured, preparing the children for entry into primary school. The children’s play becomes more rule oriented and develops autonomy and cooperation. This in turn contributes to their emotional and intellectual development. The focus is very much on making each task and activity child led and engaging their interest through play whilst developing, numeracy and literacy skills and their knowledge and understanding of the world. We feel the children leave us confident and well prepared to tackle the next steps in their education. ![]() |
As a small school we rely on the involvement of parents to help make us a success.
Parents are welcomed into the classroom, in the earlier years accompanying young children to playgroup sessions, and then later on as a duty parent in the kindergarten class.
Through regular exposure to the classroom you can find out more about your child’s development and extend their learning into your home.
SKIP has an active parent committee that organizes regular fundraisers, social events and assists staff in the running of the school.
